We bought it from a dealer who lied to us; so far we've had to put $2,000 of repairs into it.. the priciest thing has been 1 catalytic converter that needed to be replaced. But the shop we took it to apparently doesn't know what the heck they're doing, because now it turns out ANOTHER converter is dead. Airbag doesn't work, and now there's a sound when it runs. As I'm sure you know, I can't even pass emmisions without this converter working. I've been told by a few different "car people" that this car isn't worth it, and I believe them. But I'd be losing so much money by ditching it now! I really don't know what to do, it's just one repair after another. What do people do in these situations?

  1. check the owner giude for emmision warrenty. maybe it is still a dealer covered item. if not  ask the dealer for estimate for fixing the ride. sometimes its better to deal with the big boys versus the shady tree mac.

  2. You may have to bite the bullet on this one and ditch the car - it is a money pit, and by the time you have fixed every little thing that is wrong with the car the repair bill will exceed the worth of the car......and remember....

    Hope

    You

    Understand

    Nothing's

    Driveable

    And

    Inexpensive

  3. you made the mistake of buying a hyundai in the 1st place, now u know never to buy a cheap brand like hyundai.. take it as a lesson learned

  4. Well... what I would do.. I would strengthen the frame.. get it up to safety regulations for demolition derby.. Enter a demolition derby.. and have lots of FUNNN!!!!

  5. In this situation I'd do 2 things, find out how much the car is worth as a trade in or sale to Carmax.  Then find out how much it will cost to fix whatever is wrong with the car, the airbag isn't a needed repair.  The only thing you've named is the Catalytic converter needs replacing, talk to a muffler shop and see if they can't fit something for you.  I don't hear enough upcoming repair costs to think about junking the car, maybe if the engine or transmission went out.  Based on http://www.nada.com your car's trade-in value is $4600 with a retail value of $6200, most of the guys above me are clowns telling you to dump your car off a bridge when it still has good value.  Another question to ask yourself...is it better to spend $1000-2000 a year on repairs or $480 a month ($5800 a year) on a similar size new car (Sonata/Altima V6).  Don't let emotion get the best of you just because you are frustrated.

  6. you would be better off to get rid of it, trade it, sell it or junk it, but get rid of it. it,s costing you more then it,s worth.
