my daughter is 3 1/2. she goes to daycare 3 days a week. it cost me 70.....then i am having another girl on monday. i am sending her to a private sitter 2 days a week and that is going to run me 30 a day. so 60. so now childcare is 130 a week. i am a hair stylist and i pay a booth rent of 100 a week. so now that is 230 i need to make a week just to cover expenses, not including product, which runs me about 30 a week.....so 260. i will be coming back to work just 2 days a week making about 400 at the most a week. so that leaves take home at 140......and i am coming back when my baby is 4 weeks old. i have worked so hard to build up my clientle, and i can't just take a year off to wait to come back to work full time....because there is no way that i am coming back full time before my baby is 6 months old. i will loose my entire clientle, but is it really worth it?? i am planning on raising my prices to cover some expenses. my color/cut is already 80 though, haircuts 25.....so i really don't have that much room to increase. 30 cut 100 color?? i mean they will go somewhere else and pay it anyways, right? what would you do??

  1. stay home

  2. You are still coming out ahead with the job, so keep it.  Unless you want to be a SAHM forever, you should keep your job so that you don't lose your customers.  It only takes one time for them to try a new stylist and decide to stick with them...so you would have to start completely from scratch if you left temporarily.  Definitely, I would keep the job.

  3. I stay home and don't regret it one bit. If you have the means and your income isn't really essential, stay home... that's my opinion, but I think it's the best choice.

  4. honestly, i would stay home

  5. Well, having babies doesn't mean you have to stop working. It's wise though to spend with them AT LEAST their 1st 3 months with them... Being a stay at home mom for too long will bore you, seriously... But maybe yes, you can consider spending several months with them... But don't leave your job, go back very soon because it's also good for women to get involved in the economy and stuff!

edit: being only a stay at home mom is good for the kids, but they will be in school one day and then youll be home alone bored.. It's great for women to be more involved with other stuff also besides having to clean and just change diapers. I am going to be with my baby for 7 months , and after that im going back to college to full time and i am working as a teacher.. thats why i got this job, to be able to be with my kids when their in school at the same time as me...

  6. Stay at home and enjoy your babies.

  7. How about finding someone who can share your booth with - you have it two days and they have it 3 and either split the cost or divide it by the days.

  8. i would just stay home with them and maybe instead of renting a booth for your business maybe use your basement and turn it into a salon of your own and then you will not have to pay the extra 100 a week for your booth if you own your chair and all of that then i think that would be a good idea (or a room in your home if you do not have a basement) and then you will not have to pay child care and all you will need to pay for your business is your supplies hair dye and all that stuff :D good luck to you !!!!!

  9. I can't tell you what to do, but is 140 a week, really worth all the stress of running around, to get the kids ready, to drop off , for you to get to work, pick up the kids, get home, make dinner, then it's prob. just about time for bed.  I'm a stay home mom of a 1 year old and due Oct.7. (also have 2 older ones in school)  We are working off of only 1 income, which is extremely tight. But, after the cost of someone else taking care of the babies, babysitting the older ones(not old enough to be by themselves yet) , I'm gonna stop rambling, my point is : it's not enough money that would make such a difference.

Do you have the option of working a day or two from home, to keep your clientle?

  10. if your man can handle the bills alone then stay home with babies

  11. Honestly, I would just stay home and start doing friends and families hair on the side for extra money.

  12. That's a good question. And such a hard decision to make. I am working FT right now. getting readt to have baby # 3 in March. I am quitting my job b/c of the daycare cost. I'm only bringin in about 200 dollars a month after all bills are paid. That's Ridiculous. Plus time with my children is invaluable to me. I've realized now more than ever how quickly they grow up and are only little once. I won't get a second chance at seeing this. That to me is worth staying home and having a tighter budget. Good luck on making a decision.

  13. If I had the chance I'd stay home with my babies. =]

  14. Is there anyway you build or turn a room in your house into a shop? My aunt finished in their back porch and made it into a shop and I always stayed with her during the week while my mom worked. You would only need one sink, chair and dryer or at least that is how she did it. Then your babies could be there and your clients could just come to the house

  15. Do you have a basement that you could turn into your own little salon? That would solve many problems. Cut booth cost and child care cost, you would just have to come up with money to get everything that you need.

  16. You never mentioned if you are financially able to stay home.  If you don't NEED that plausible $140 a week after all other expenses due to working, then you could quit if you wanted to.  You also never mentioned what YOU wanted to do.  Do you want to keep working?  Do you want to stay home?  Figure that out first, then sit down and plan out your budget.

Its also possible for you to keep your clientele by simply doing hair out of your own home.  If you have space to do it. A great friend of mine simply moved her washer and dryer to the garage and turned her entire wash room into her own personal salon.  It was just the right size.  All she did was buy a used hair washing station and hooked it up to where the washer use to be.  There was lots of cabinets to keep all her essentials and even had room for a hair dryer.  It worked great for her.  She was able to cut her prices and keep all her clients!  To get everything up and running cost her less than $1,000.

  17. This is really something you have to decide for yourself.  Personally, if I could afford to stay at home with my children, that's what I would do.  You will have other clients in the future but you only have one chance at being home with your children.  Or at least I would cut back to a couple days a week just to get out of the house if you think you could use a break.  I can't see how clearing $140 a week would make it worth it.  Plus you have to ask yourself if people would be willing to continue using your services after the increase in prices.  It's not that much I realize, but it may be just enough to send your clients elsewhere.
