What would you have done if a bank teller would only take one transaction & told you to get back in line?

I waited in line at my bank uneventfully. When it was my turn, I had two transactions: I asked the teller if I can write one check or must I write two. She stated two. As I wrote one check, she accused me of not following her direction, then realized she was wrong and let me proceed. I began to write the second check and she told me to step aside while she took the person behind me.

There was only two other people in line and I was not taking that long. I requested she complete my transactions, but she argued and told me to step aside. The woman behind me wanted 200 $1.00 bills and $200 in coins which took more time than the rest if my transaction.

I asked a desk manager if this was a joke (candid camera), she assured me it was not, and then I complained, but I am sure nothing will come of it.

I do not want to be treated this way in the future and will more my CD's, IRA and accounts to another bank if it happens again. What would you have done and would you follow up with it by contacting the bank manager?

  1. I would have refused to move and asked for a manager on the spot. Your time is just as valuable as the other customer. The teller was rude and you should write a letter to the CEO of the bank. Hopefully you got her name...probably not to hard to find out. I have been in banking for 14 years and they do customer surveys all the time. YOu should contact a person on a district level and tell them how rude she was. The manager is probably already aware she is like that and allows it. Good luck!

  2. I don't think the teller was out of line.  You should have had those check written ahead of time instead of waiting till you were at the window.  While waiting for you to get your paperwork together, the teller would have waited on another person.

  3. I would definitely speak with the branch manager.  At the same time, it is not good practice to be writing checks at the counter.  They should be written before you get in line.  If you aren't sure how to handle a situation, go to the help desk and ask or call ahead.

You should be able to do two, three or more transactions at one turn in line--but all should be prepared and ready to go.

  4. you have to complain to the corporate office complaining at store level usally dose nothing you have to speak to the hire up people to get any where

  5. ~~I would talk directly to the bank manager, and if that person did not profusely apologize and assure me it would never happen again, I would move to a new bank. I call that horrible customer service, and you don't have to put up with it.~~

  6. I would contact the branch manager, and tell him/her that this is still really bugging you.. enough that you are considering moving your money and assets from the bank, and ask him/her if this is standard policy.  Be polite and professional.  They were trying to be of service to everyone in line, and the teller made a mistake in judgement in my opinion, in that you weren't doing something that was going to take THAT long.. they could've been patient. Maybe the person behind you looked mad or something.  Everyone makes mistakes in judgement, and I'm sure she didn't know the lady was going to ask for 200 $1.00 bills etc...   still, the important thing is that you are important and you need to feel that your business is valuable so that you WANT to continue to do business with them. See what the manager says, and decide from there.
