What would you have done to this door to door salesman?

Question

I do not open doors to strangers. I had the same door to door

salesman ring my door twice on 2 different days. He did this

to other neighbors as well. On the third day,he came back!

My kids were outside and so I had to open the door. I told him

rudely that I was not interested and slammed the door in his

face. I then called the police. The police came and said that the

guy was Ok, that he and another guy had verified their selling

to the sheriffs office. I said that was not the point. I said there are people who don't open the door to strangers and he came

back to my house 3 times because I would not open the door.

What do you all think? Just because this salesmen got permission to sell with the sheriff,,,still doesn't mean that he

could be honest. Getting verified by the sheriff,could just be

a cover. What do you think?

I think you are a bit paranoid and now days you should be.  However, you could have just asked him through the door the first first day what he wanted and told him politely you were not interested.  Then, if he came back, call him in.

I think you should have answered the door the first time, told him that you were not interested and please do not return.  Getting angry and blowing up on people doesn't help at all and could have turned the situation quite ugly.  He is only trying to make a living.  I suggest you put up an "Absolutely NO Soliciting" sign.  The local Girl Scouts will love you.

He was just trying to make a sale.  You only talked to him once, and told him no.  If you told him you weren't interested the first time, and he returned, then you have a complaint

You go through all this hassle when a sign stating "No solicitors" would have solved the problem? Many areas require salesmen to register with local law enforcement.

Put up a No solicitation sign by the way.. i had an uncle answer the door to the mormans buck naked because he works nights ans was sleeping at the time.. needless to say they've NEVER been back... so if all else fails hire a big hairy naked man to answer your door

Put a small sign on your door saying "no Solicitors!"  Or, you can get one of those funny ones that say you'll shoot them.  

Next time, just say 'not interested.'  It's that easy.

I always answer the door holding a firearm.

I agree with you 100%. Just anothr example of lazy inept police officers and how you need to be aware that you cannot always count on them if you are in a fix.
