Question:

What would you name your horse?

I am supposedly getting a horse sometime in the next few weeks and I need to think of a name. I have not been able to see it yet and I do not know the gender yet. So I am just hoping it is not some S****y old nag getting ready to go to the glue factory.

So any ideas? Also I do not like names like Star, Blackie and c**p like that. I like the names that a person would give to their children.

  1. Joe i love that name :]

  2. Wow.  You don't sound at all jaded.  Some of these girls would kill for a "S****y old nag".  They would love it, groom it and make it not so naggy looking.

The horse doesn't come with a name?

    How about:

    Self Centered

    Jaded

  3. All depends on the dicipline, personality, gender, colour etc. But some unisex cute names could be some of these:

    Karington

    Kail

    Passachie

    Littlelove

    Lexington

    Carfiche

    Aritzia

    Sabatini

    Munico

    Maurice

    Charlie

    Soficci

    Skyler

    Riley

    Mikey

    Finesse

    Beau

These are all I can think of on the spot right now. Good luck, and congrats!

  4. LUCKY YOU! IV'E BEEN DREAMING SINCE I WAS LIKE 6 FOR MY OWN HORSE! I really like the name Wynter for a white horse. And for a Pinto I would name it Domino or Dottie. For a black stallion or any stallion I would name it Spirit or Azul. And for any other female horse I would name them Harmony, Faith, Morgyn or Devyn. I know they sound weird but I'm funny and crazzzzzyyyyy!

  5. I think if you love horses you will love a "S****y old nag getting ready to go to the glue factory" anyway. How is a horse S****y by the way.

My first horses name was Molly, and my current horses are Dottie and Cal.

I think a name like that works good for a gelding or mare is a good way to go since you do not know the gender. I personally think that you should just wait to see the horse because most likley a name will fit its personality, and then there you go, a name for a horse. Good luck.

  6. My colt is called Cassidy it took me forever to think of his name- but i thought i would give him an Irish name, as he is an Irish sports horse.

I looked on baby name website this way you can choose a name depending on where it originates from. Or on meaning like Kadir for my Arab as it is Arabic also it means powerful which he is.

I think it is nice to name horses with a personal name as they are part of the family well that just my opinion. Names like blacky are very impersonal but hey that’s just me.

Take your time when choosing your horses as it should be sentimental to you & your horse

  7. Wow! Lucky!

    I like..

    Solitaire (Solly)

    Blackjack (Blackie, Jack, whatever)

    Red.

    Silver.

    Skye/Sky.

Faerie (Unusual, I know, but you could nickname her Rie)

    s****..

Haiku (Again, an unusual one; could be nicknamed Ku)

And I can't think of any others at the moment.. Good luck with your new horse!

  8. my horses reg name was sacred eyes but we called her fancy ....aka fancy pants!!!!

had horses named: domino , snowball... scout

knew horses named: callie, echo, lady, jodie, nikita, lil'**** :), d.c, sip, sala, honey, macy, danny, theo (love that name!!!), eagle

prolly  a lot more but i cant think of them

  9. Willow

  10. I have named 3 horses in my life of horses.

My current horse is a grey and is named Casper.  He was called Nick when I got him but I am not a big fan of people names on animals...hey I am going to ride Nick..hmmm.

He has a registered name ..his stud and the name Deviate.

I have also named a chestnut gelding.  Aztec

I named a bay arab filly - China (registered name..stud name plus Spangle)

My other current horse (very old now) is Jimmy.

As a kid I had a horse Cheyenne

    Other names I like are

    Wanderer

    Tannah

    Sapphire (Saffy)

    Solaway

    Bushido (means Japanese Samurai)

    Firenze

Have fun naming your new horse whether it be 'S****y' or not.

p.s. my first horse Cheyenne was possibly a S****y horse, confirmation very incorrect, terrible trot, old (23), had arthritis but I loved him more than anything else.  That was 30+ years ago and I still miss and love that horse.  I had the time of my life with him!  No horse is a S****y old nag.  My old horse now is 30+ (Jimmy) and I still ride him and adore his quietness, I love I can completely trust him with my life and my grandkids lives.  He is a gem with a lot to offer at a grand old age.

I agree with some others....just be happy you are even getting a horse.  I know plenty of girls that would be so thrilled to be getting a horse of any age, shape, description.  Be thankful.

  11. Well I'm going to name a horse "Your Mom" someday...

"Now on course, Jane Doe riding Your Mom..."

    HAHA

  12. I wanted a horse for as long as I can remember.  I bought my first one 3 1/2 yrs ago, I was like 44 yrs old.  I have since bought 2 more.  The were all regstered and had cool names already.

Shikos Bellarina ...  aka ... Bellah

VHS Hot Romance ....aka ...  Romeo

JBC Cool Skipen Dude  ....  aka ...  Dudley

When you get your new horse spend a lot of time loving on it and grooming it.  Watch him/her run in the pasture.  Let the horse tell you his/her name.

    Good Luck with him :-)

  13. My horses are Clancy, Star-Light (I know cliche but he was allready named) and JJ. I like the name domino for a paint too. I like Willow and Harmony (other ppl's suggestions). I like the names Sapple, Cookie ( good for a palomino or buckskin ) Balott- pronounced - Bar-low... Theres a lot but I can't think of them atm.

  14. Why give a horse a boring "human name" when you can give it any name in the world?

I love names that are Latin or Greek translations, or come from ancient mythology etc. I recently bought a golden palomino filly and discovered that palomino is actually a Latin word for "pale dove", so that's what I named my filly.

Really, any animal's name needs to be short and sharp, so that it is easy to call out. Usually one or two syllables maximum and something that just rolls off the tongue, so words that end in vowels tend to work well (especially A, O and I, including Y).

Some of my past and current ponies names are: Polly, Hobo, Kitty, Bella, Cuda, Danny, Mindy, Milly, Cherry, Sparky, Barney, Normie, Ember, Duke, Possum, Casper, Spirit, Rebel, Storm, Sally, Inky, Buddy, Sterlo, Rosie, Sammy, Pepper, Jay, Charlie, Blaze). Some of them came with these names, some were names I gave them.

I find that a name just comes to you when you look at a horse. I have a spunky little taffy colt named Duke (after Dukes Of Hazzard), and I have a grey filly named Ember (after my first ever My Little Pony toy).

Best of luck with your new horse,

    PK

  15. well calling any horse a "S****y old nag" sounds pretty ungrateful for someone who is getting a horse.

And to think, i was actually gonna give you some suggestions....

  16.

I love coming up with horse names. It is also fun to look at other languages for names. Here are some ideas...

       Colt, stallion, or gelding-

    Charlie Brown

Friendly Prince (I knew a horse with this name- we called him Friend)

    Samuel

    Christian

    Joshua

    Deja Vu

       Mare or filly-

Sojourner (this IS a girl's name- I really like it)

    Ain't Misbehavin'

    Aurora (pronounced 'ah-rora')

Echo of Hope (or just Echo)

It kind of depends on whether you're looking for a show name or just a barn name.

Whether it's an amazing sport horse or a rescue horse, you can affect the way looks and performs by the way you care for and handle it. I've been riding since 1998 and I've never owned a horse. Be grateful for the opportunity- horses are wonderful creatures!
