I am thinking about selling Dove Chocolate at Home, Gold Canyon Candles, Partylite candles, Tastefully Simple or Homemade Gourmet. Anyone out there involved with or in the past with any of these companies and what is your experience good or bad? Thanks!

  1. gourmet foods because personally i prefer to be around gourmet foods than too much chocolate because gourmet foo is food chocolate is is junk food, and candles at a party take a lot of precautions thats why i would choose gourmet foods.

  2. Well Im partial to Gold Canyon..Thats what I sale and I do more catalog parties and a TON of orders from neighbors, friends and family.  I dont do the whole presentation thing at parties.. people find it boring. I make my parties a social gathering and fun.  More sales and a better turn out. Who doesnt burn candles, always a great gift.  Bought by both men and women.. we dont only have candles we have, candle care, candle decor, body care products and "green" cleaning products. Its a consumable product , once candle is gone you need to replace it. I would either do GC or one of the food companies... People do like going to those too and they will always need to re-order  candles and food.  Good Luck in choosing.  If you want info on GC I am more than happy to help you out!

  3. I just joined Homemade Gourmet and I've never done anything like this. I don't have to do it for the money, I'm just doing it to give me an excuse to get out of the house (I don't work anymore because of health issues) and because I really like the product. I've had parties for all of the other things you mentioned (except the chocolate) because I moved to a very small town 7 years ago and there is NO shopping available within 50 miles so I think everyone likes these parties (that's the only thing I can think of). Anyway, I (like others on here) think the candles are pretty pricey and think I can purchase chocolates at the store. I used to live in downtown Dallas and I'd see Homemade Gourmet reps when I'd go to festivals, etc. I'd purchase the product, and always really enjoyed the food. When I was home in TX last fall I met a rep who I really liked and we started talking about HG, yada yada yada.....Well, I now live in Maryland and there aren't alot of reps here, so now there's one more......Good luck in whatever you choose!

  4. As a consumer and having been to these parties, the chocolate and candles are boring and I tend not to buy as much. I really enjoy the Tastefully Simple products and I continue to by from my salesperson even when there is not a party to be had.

I hope you choose and option that YOU and enjoy and that will make you a successful rep.

  5. I can buy Dove chocolate at the grocery store....and I only use soy candles:)  My daughter goes to alot of PAMPERED CHEF parties and loves those... in fact, those are the only parties I've never heard people complain about having to go to!!

  6. Hi Karlee,

I think with all of the health concious people chocolate would not be a great biz to start. Tastefully simple in my opinioon has alot of sodium and is not diabetic friendly. I guess taht leaves candles. Good luck with your choice.

  7. Hi.  Well as a consumer, lol, I don't like Partylite parties.  I find them pretty expensive, plus I don't like the whole set-up that they have, ie. wasting the first half hour of the party showing us all the gifts we COULD get if we host a party, stuff like that.  So, hope that helps a little...  : )

  8. I agree - I've been selling Gold Cayon candles for over three years now and I still love them as much today as I did then.  They are the easiest things to sell and everyone loves them.  In three years, I've only had one complaint and it was easily fixed and a new candle was supplied.  Gold Canyon are leaps and bounds stronger and cheaper than Partylite and the big ones run about $5 cheaper than the Yankee big ones!

The one big thing I would ask, is how many demonstrators do you have in your area of each one of those groups?  I live in a small town in Ohio and we have a ton of Mary Kay (although that wasn't on your list) - but I have 11 friends who sell it.  Tastefully Simple and Pampered Chef are the second most covered companies in this area.  Three years ago no one knew who Gold Canyon was and it seems like the fewer the Demonstrators in an area, the better they do.   If there are a lot in your area, it can be hard to get customers away from already established connections.  It's not impossible, it just can be rough.

The last thing are percentages you get.  I know Gold Canyon isn't as high as others, but with all the repeat sales I have, I make more than I would with other places.  Also, with some products it can take a long time to use them all up and need to order more.  My customers are always burning candles and ordering more!

If you have any more questions or thoughts, please feel free to e-mail me.  I'd be glad to help.

  9. As a Tastefully Simple consultant for 6 years...Tastefully Simple of course!  Everyone loves to eat and that's exactly what you do at our parties ;)  Our product is consumable, therefor, more reorders AND versatile.  We offer a slew of suggestions on the website and at our taste testing parties.  Of course, you need to be passionate about your product and have a connection with your sponsor.  Good luck!
