What would you rather see when entering a nice resturant?

when entering into a nice up scale resturant what is the 1st thing you would want to see? Beautiful hostess, host nice smile, live aniamls( Fish tank), colors, great furniture? what

In all honesty, the host/hostess's attitude.  If they smirk and brusquely escort us to a table, I'll remember it.  All the time muttering "What an a**!"  That destroys the rest of the meal.

and a fish tank. i tihnk huge, extravagant fish tanks are like..amazing!

A hostess, period. I hate walking into a nice restaurant and I have to stand there wondering if I'm supposed to seat myself or if someone will come for me soon. There should be a greater/hostess who's job it is to stand at the door and say "hello." Then she can tell the waitress/2nd hostess where to sit the customers. I know it sounds like a small thing, but when I feel uncomfortable the second I walk into a restaurant, it's not a good sign. It usually means I'll also have to flag down my waiter to get the check, and then flag him down when I'm ready to pay (and maybe flag him down to get my change). This whole problem usually stems from under-staffing- something a good restaurant should NOT let happen.

Host nice smile while she OPENED the door for me..  THat first impression from the hostess and how you are greeted by the first employees when you walk in stays with the customers forever.  I will never forget this one outback steakhouse where the host. opened the door for people and was so friendly.. all I remember were smiles on the employees after walking in.. Not only were we happy with service, but they were very happy with the large tip we left.

A nice hostess and no line.  Also to not be able to see the other guests, I don't like to see people waiting for a table while I'm eating.

Ambiance.  I want to see nice lighting, nice tables and chair, soft music, clean, and good food of course.

If we're talking at a big time for eating out (eg. dinner) I'd like to see people, lots of people. I'd like to see nice furniture which is obviously well-cared for, and appropriate for the style of the restaurant. If I see food going around, I'd want it to seem appetizing. I'd definitely want to see waiters and waitresses around constantly and not just sitting.

A good smile is definitely great, but looks are not important and the fish depend on the style of the restaurant and if it corresponds to the style of the fish and tank.
