I'm considering moving to saskatoon next year. Perhaps for school or for a change of scenery. What area of town would you reccomend looking for apartments? Where's the best places to meet people from 25-30?

  1. I actually live in Saskatoon, so I guess I'm more "qualified" to help you out.

Saskatoon has just had a major housing boom, unfortunatley housing prices have gone up, which includes rent, some up as much as 50%.  Do not move into an apartment downtown or on the inner west side.  Personally I wouldn't live in any of the west side.  North or East are fine.

Employees are needed just about everywhere.  I was looking for a part time job, spent 20 minutes handing out resumes in a mall, got 10 job offers!!

As for meeting people, I'm not into the bar scene, so I can't comment on that except again, stay out of the ones on the inner west side.

Saskatoon has 225,000 people.  Not too big, not too small.  People are friendly here, much more so than in a big city.  We have lovely clean air and water - no smog or anything.

Our winters are cold.  In January we got down to minus 50 degrees Celcius for 5 days in a row, if I remember right.  We dress properly for the weather, in a lot of layers, and typically don't go out if we don't have to.  Places like Toronto get an inch of snow and whine about it for weeks on end.

I am proud of being from Saskatoon, we are hard workers, nice people, and made of strong character.  If you have any other questions, email me.

  2. Was reported in McLeans magizine that Sasktoon along with Regina and Winnipeg were the most dangerous places to live in Canada.

  3. Two really nice areas in S'toon are City Park (it's downtown, a bit older/ more character and still a short bike or walk to the university, river, malls, etc) and the Broadway/Nutana area. (Trendier in a hippie way; the pubs "Yard and Flagon" and "Lydia's" are too places to meet people 25-30). The university campus is beautiful and the people are friendly. You'll meet lots of people there. Good Luck.

  4. well most Canadians outside of Saskatoon or Saskatchewan for that matter will tell you there's nothing in Saskatoon. Personally I'll tell you the same.

But if your looking for an escape from the daily rush and want a place to clear your mind, and get a taste of some of that infamous dry humour that the prairies are supposedly known for then probably saskatoon is your place. Make sure you know what your getting yourself into and be wary of the winter, not only is it colder than a witches t*t but it's dry too.
