Question:

What would you say about this habit?

I want to know about my habit. I have a habit to spell words (as longer as possible) backwards. I do not need to think for the next previous letter to spell it.

Everytime when I recall any spellings, I get recalled in opposite sequence. This has been a common thing to me that when someone wants to know spellings of any word from me, I accidently tell him inverse and then realize that this is inverse sequence. I then tell him the correct one.

I told many people about my habid but nobody believed me. They were amazed when I did this to more longer and longer words in front of them.

Whenever I read a word, my attention goes to last letter instead of first one.

Well, I am right handed but I do not find any difficulty in doing jobs with left hand except writing.

So why do you think this happens to me? What is this mirror fitted in my mind?

This habit has been unintentionally dancing in my mind for an year.

Its not the problem of left to right or right to left. Besides English, I do the same thing in Urdu words which starts from Right to Left.

In Urdu, I spell words from left to right.

  1. I'd keep practicing this & maybe someday you can be famous for it. There's a guy like that in the US. Also people that memorize long strains of numbers & can repeat them back to you, in the exact order that they were in, without looking at them..

Seriously, though.. I'd develop your talent further.. See where it leads & what you can do. :)

  2. It sounds like dsylexia

  3. I would say that it's an interesting mental exercise that can keep you sharp. You did say that you've been doing it for a year. I assume this means that previously -- and still today -- you can spell correctly if you so choose. Yes? Otherwise, I expect your post would have started out as: "I tnaw ot wonk tuoba ym tibah...." Or do you also do it with sentences?

The human mind is capable of many cognitive feats. This is one you happen to have embraced at this time.

  4. dude, i wish i had that skill

  5. Sounds like your very gifted but I bet your h**l on a spelling test.

  6. Have you been under more stress than normal in the last year?  It sounds like an anxiety response.  It happens to a lot of people but in various methods.  Some count numbers and add them up and then find the alphabetical equivalent, that sort of thing.  If it bothers you see an MD and get some light anxiety medication.  Should correct things.
