  1. My twins are 13 and they would like to life weights to build muscle since they are skinny but I won't investin expensive weight lifting material because I am worried they will use it a few times and get tired of it.

  2. I think it's awesome if he does it in a healthy way and doesn't try to bulk up by eating a lot of fatty, unhealthy foods and also does cardiovascular exercises. This is a perfect time to start living a healthy lifestyle that will continue into adulthood. I wish my daughter wanted to do something healthy and beneficial.

  3. no your bones are still to underdeveloped at that age It also takes a lifetime commitment  because once you develop the mussels yoyu have to keep them in shape or they will turn to flab

  4. i have a brother who wants to be a muscley, so i know this conversation. my parents said no, you cant work on expensive exrecise machines, itll stunt your growth, but you can lift weghts, exercise, and do pushups and situps every night.

  5. It's dangerous to weight train before about 15 years old. The reason is that weight training hurts your bones and actually causes small fractures that stunt your growth if you start soon. I would talk to a professional (actually, talk to several professionals and your doctor to get different opinions), and go from there.

    Best of luck!

  6. Yes.

He'll be wanting something else by 14.

  7. I would get him a training class. Obviously, nothing over the top yet. Until you were 18, I would make sure you weren't overdoing it yet. Then at 18, you can make your own choices.

  8. You could train at 13 major muscle groups. Do alot of work on abs, do push ups pull ups, etc. I would not use weights and especially heavy weights because it can stunt growth. If you just start by running doing light weights and push ups and a emphasis on abs you will be fine to start training when you get to high school

  9. I would talk to his Dr first and a trainer.  Maybe the trainer first see what he says then the Dr to make sure it is ok

  10. Yes but he would have to do it responsibly and appropriately and I would be with him to make sure no one was filling his head with taking drugs or steroids...if he wanted to do it, he would have to do it naturally...

  11. Most Middle Schools offer weight training classes during the year as an elective or PE. I would consult with my physician before jumping into an exercise regimen as strict as weight training.

  12. Weight training at 13 can be dangerous. The body's supports just aren't developed enough yet.  But there are other strength-building exercises you can do that don't involve lifting weights.

Push ups, chin ups, squats, yoga, aerobics, swimming, etc.
