I have the address to an Aunt who I've never met and want to write and introduce myself to her but I don't know what to say or where to begin.

I was never allowed to know anything about my family or to have any form of contact with them and now I'm forty years old and have finally found one of them and am very excited about it but I don't know what I should say.

What would you say in a situation like this and what can I say to make a good impression?

  1. Greet her respectfully in the start of the letter, and continue with how you feel about finally finding a family member.

If it needs explaining why you didn't contact any of them previously, then do so short and sweetly - she can ask questions if wants to know more, if you feel comfortable answering.

Let her know that you'd love to call her, and possibly find out more about your family, but felt a letter would be a better way to initiate contact.

Give a little information about your life, what you've been doing, kids, husband, the dog, etc, and inquire about her life as well.

There you have a letter. :P Goodluck!!
