  1. The good old British classic

    Sandwiches!

    Or even better

    Cadburys Chocolate

    =]

  2. A good homemade steak and ale pie with mashed potato!

I can't believe no-one else has said that. You can't beat it!

Close runners up would be roast dinner (with all the trimmings), toad in the hole, sausage casserole made with good English pork sausages and a whole lot of west country cider in the stock - ohh and 'Sunday tea' in the winter time like we had when I was little: homemade scones, crumpets toasted on a fork over a roaring open fire, butter and homemade jams, and a freshly baked and iced cake, with hot tea and coffee (no, I'm not actually from the Victorian era, this was the 1980s believe it or not!)

  3. I've never been to England;I've lived in GA my whole life, but I've always wanted to try Shepherd's pie and yorkshire pudding. James Herriott always talked about both in his books and they always sounded SO good. YUM.

  4. FISH AND CHIPS at Brighton or chicken masala... oh god mmhmhmmmmmm.....

  5. roast beef Yorkshire pudding roast potatoes and parsnips steamed carrats cabbage mashed swede and baby new potatoes nice gravy finished by apple pie and double cream

  6. I love the answers that have curries and Indian food as being English: truth is that many of them actually are English inventions, even the ones created by Indians were done here for the most part!

I am a Chicken Vindaloo man.  As hot as possible please!

  7. roast dinner, beef, lamb or pork ..all the trimmings.. mmm then it has to be fish and chips, crispy batter with melt in your mouth fish, and gorgeous chips with lots of salt and vinegar and crispy bits!! ..and last (but not least) a full english brekkie!!! yum!! x

  8. Fish and Chips from the seaside. Whitby fish and chips are gorgeous!

(though weirdly the best fish and chips I ever had was in Florida)

  9. fish and chips easy!!

  10. roast beef dinner with yorks and roasties.

  11. i love freshly cooked fish and chips.

I prefer big fat soggy chips. With crispy but soft inside fish.

Lots of salt and vinegar and with mushy peas.

    MMMMMMMMMMMMM delicious

I also really like shepeards pie. during the winter seasons its perfect.

  12. Yorkshire pudding or beef wellington.

  13. Roast beef and yorkshire pudding.

  14. I'm from the U.S. so all I know is Fish and Chips; Bangers and Mash; and Shepard's Pie.    I'm not even certain if that's all English.

I would say my fav. is Fish in Chips w/ vinegar

  15. Chicken Tikka Masala. Even though I guess it's technically Scottish, being invented in Glasgow.

So if I cant have that, quite possibly the mighty Cornish pasty.

  16. Yes. Fish and Chips for sure

  17. Fish and chips, roast beef with yorkshire pudding, welsh rarebit, breakfast kippers.

  18. can't decide between fish and chips, and roast beef and yorkshire puds love em both!

  19. Chicken madras

  20. Chicken parmo!  Teesside speciality and its lush...

  21. agree, fish and chips is the best. I don't know any other traditional English dish/meal other than that and some desserts. lol

  22. Fish & Chips are indeed tasty, but as for a favorite it would have to be:

                          Spotted d**k

just because, as a crass American,  it is so fun to say!

  23. I do love all these foods..and I could could swim in a pool full of Yorkshire pudding and the  brown gravy...but my personal favorite is "bubble and squeak"..nice warm and filling!!!!

  24. I fail to understand why terms like vindaloo, tikka masala and such pop up under "English dish" - these are Indian, foreign absolutely nothing English about it. An Indian born in Britain does not make him an English, Scot or Welsh - they remain Indian.

    My fave English....

Fish & Chips (cod, rock salmon)

    Shepherds' Pie / Cottage pie

Toad in the Hole & Yorkshire Pudding

    Steak and Oyster Pie

    Sausage and Mash

  25. fish n chips..yummmmm =)
