I live in Washington State (the rainy State!). This is very rare here, yesterday just out of nowhere we had a Tornado. It past just miles from my house. I or my property was not harmed but there was alot of damage in the Tornado path. I was wonder if I had to get out very quickly and time was everything. What would I want to take...Family & Pets excluded. What would you take?

  1. Hey! I live in Tacoma! I heard about that tornado. It's scary because they said it could NEVER happen. If I had to leave the house with just a few seconds to take something, I would grab my dog (25 lbs.) and my gun. If a tornado does strike and puts the town out for a few days, no doubt there will be looters and lawlessness, so I have to protect myself from that. Plus, I have to be sure where the gun is at all times because I could get in trouble if someone takes it and uses it for criminal purposes.

  2. Interesting question,we just had a tornado 9 miles down the road when the sirens went off on Wednesday,I grabbed my glasses, shoes, coat and purse called the dogs never even thought about it.And we had just been discussing this too,of course we have lots of tornadoes and warnings been hit several times so I keep some things together,I figure I may be able to find something later but you never know.I really don't worry about it much,we also plan for an earthquake so its just nature.

  3. beer

  4. Be prepared for disasters, make up a pack of items that you would most likely need.

    Include:

    copies of bank details,

    insurances

    birth certificates

    emergency numbers

    numbers of friends and family

    some spare cash

    spare keys

    First Aid kit

    Water, food

Warm clothing for each member of the family

    Torch, rope, matches

    penknife

    etc

put it all in a plastic box with a lid. Then if you do need to go anywhere fast you just need to pick up the one item.

  5. I live in Perth in west australia and the only thing i could think of that would happen to my place is maybe a fire *knock on wood*

but i would definately have to grab my photos.

clothes, cds, dvds, electricals etc can all be replaced but phoos cant.

and i have generations of photos and all my baby girls photos.

  6. That is why i have a safe-room. My house is high enough it will not flood.

    and the room is fireproof

If there is a tornado i am going to hide in my safe-room

My safe room is 6 inches of steel reinforced brick lined with 5 inches of steel reinforced concrete walls and  8 inch concrete roof. It has a 6 foot brick entryway with fire doors at each end.

The design that i used has survived tornadoes in the Midwest,

hurricanes in Florida, and wild fires in Calif.

And is based on a 1960s bomb shelter.

I use it for my valuables like my guns, papers, and store things i do not want taken by burglars when i am out of town.

Both doors have 3 dead bolt locks top, middle and bottom of the door.

and there is a alarm system.

Plus i keep the recorder for my security system in the room.

This all saves me from having to grab anything.

Since i keep two weeks  food in it.( i use it for food storage because it stays cool) i have no reason to get out for long. it also has 4 batteries and a inverter for my emergency power supply.
