I have a friend of mines that has an 18 year old son that just graduated from H.S this year. Hes a really smart kid. Just to let you know, hes African American. Anyway, He applied to mostly all the prestigious colleges and Universities such as Yale, Harvard, DUke, Spelman Stanford, Princeton and a few others and he got accepted to ALL of them. He decided to go to Yale and wants to go to HArvard Law to be a lawyer. I was talking to him and hes very excited about going away to college, but hes concerned that being a black man in a school such as Yale will be a challenge for him. I told him that they will expect more from him because they don't understand or believe that its possible for any black person to be smart enough to get into a school like Yale. I told him to keep his head up, stay in his books and to stay away from people that are not going to keep him focused. What would you tell him to do about his feelings of not being truly being accepted because hes black?

  1. we are 2008 people.

lest think that way. he may be so smart and he needs to show it

if there any body that those not acept him at that school the dnot deseb to go to such a good school. this goes for all those stupids...

  2. Tell him to fly or drive to the campus and just look around. He will discover that he won't be the only black person there.

  3. i would tell him that there will be more african americans there and just because he aint white dont mean he cant prove himself tell him that if he truely feels that way more the reason to prove them wrong and give it all he has!!! go for the gold kid go for the gold

  4. It doesn't matter if he's starting preschool or starting at Yale ,,,, If he's their that indicates that he's intelligent enough to be there ,,,,  His race and skin color does NOT or is NOT a determining factor nor is it a part of the equation ,,,,  He's an American born and bred and he could just as easily be carrying a weapon for this country ,,,, There are many blacks that do that now ,,,,  He has emotions and feelings the same as anyone else  ,,,, The color of his money is green just like anyone else's ,,,, And when he's cut or injured his blood is red just like any other Americans ,,,,  Imagine that ,,,,

I hate to dissagree with you but his color or his ethinic back ground is not a factor in what they expect of him just because he's black ,,,, The school is color blind and is only interested in the grades not who they come from ,,,, He's in the same boat as any other student that attends college ,,,, They are not going to expect any more out of him than they would any other student ,,,,

He's just going to be another body and anyone else attending Yale is intelligent enough to recognize this and treat him as a fellow student and human being ,,,,  No one has a right or any business to take exception to his being there ,,,,Besides they are going to be too concerned about their own studies to worry about or be involve with any c**p anyway ,,,, If some do then they aren't worth the time of day and he should just try to stay away from them as anyone else would ,,,, I'm not telling him to run or hide ,,,, I"m just suggesting that he do the same thing anyone else would in the same situation ,,,, There's always a few and these are the type of people that anyone should stay away from regardless of their race or ethnic back ground ,,,, Besides the institution has rules and guide lines that are mandatory for all students to follow ,,,,

He's not going to be the only black student there so tell him to just walk up the steps and right through the front doors just like anyone else ,,,, It's not really going to be like he thinks anyway ,,,, People that attend colleges like that are looked at for their intelligence not what they look like ,,,, You tell him to go there and worry about the books and not so much about the people around him ,,,, He will find his nook and place there and it's not going to be near like he seems to be worrying about  ,,,,

I wish him luck and go gettem ,,,,      Yoda told you this ,,,,   //

  5. I would be like dude you are one smart man and everyone know's that ! Your skin is just a differant color , since it is try to do a little bit better than everyone else !

  6. Tell him that there are approximately 8% black underclassmen enrolled at Yale.  His race will not be an obstacle to being accepted.  From your description of him I see no reason why he would not be a success in his studies.  I think your advice to him was excellent.

  7. Good for him.Tell him to go for it and stay focused on his studies and not what other people think of him.God made us all different and we should be proud of our heritage.
