It would take an acute lack of brains. Hybrids are outrageously heavy polluters. Look at what goes into making them.

it would take a great effort and engineering and money to convert a car into a hybrid electric. also consider you would probably have to have the car re-certified (inspected) and then you would have to deal with the insurance companies and the motor vehicle office. converting to pure electric would be less expensive. I converted a full size street motorcycle to Series Hybrid Electric. the motorcycle had to be inspected and approved, then the insurance. I did the conversion to see if it was feasible to do. the motorcycle is registered as an electric, there is an on-board engine/alternator for anytime anywhere battery charging. the bike is used everyday to and from work and is capable of highway speeds. fuel mileage is fantastic. Bottom line, save your money. buy a good fuel efficient car that isn't hybrid.

lots of work and money.Also headaches and you will void your warranty. the civic should have the hybrid option. Its more expensive but worth it. Also tax credits and the saving in gas make up the difference.
