I know the newer ('07 and up) models come with the rear curtain side airbags standard, but I'm not sure what model year they were added. Also, is it standard in both the base and Touring models?

  1. why not call Acura and find out..it's a toll free call, the number is in your phone book and www.acura.com

  2. The year was 2004.  I found this out by using http://www.safercar.gov to research year by year the standard side curtain airbags in the MDX model.  Beforehand, in 2003, Acura did have torso airbags in the MDX, but they did not protect the head.  This would most likely be standard in both models as honda, acura's parent company, adopted a policy called 'safety for everyone' which entailed putting all possible safety features in all models, regardless of whether it was the basic model or not.  Now when you say rear curtain, that's a loaded question.  This is because side curtain airbags cover all rows of the car, so when the curtain was introduced into the vehicle it would cover both sides fully in general.
