  1. 1897!

  2. 1897.

  3. The Victorian Football League was established in 1896 and the following year the League’s first games were played among the foundation clubs – Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fitzroy, Geelong, Melbourne, St Kilda and South Melbourne.

  4. I'd like to reccommend a great book on Australian Rules Football History..

It's called " Up Where Cazaly" by Leonie Sandercock and Ian Turner

It tells you all about the lead up to the formation of the VFL , the teams. Incidently there was a team called University that disbanded due to the out break of WW1 but still has the right to re-join  ... lol .

It stops short of the the VFL coming the AFL ( was written before most interstate teams came in) but is still a fantastic informative book ...( just checked ebay for you and there's a copy for sale and no it isn't me selling it .. i treasure my copy too much)

  5. 1897
