What year do you apply for an scholarship

In high school what year are you suppose to apply for an scholarship?

like in freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, or senior year. Could I apply in sophomore year?

Usually no more then a year before you start but there are some scholarships that go into your account and can be used up to 5 years later.
