What year does tangerine by edward bloor take place?

It's been a few years since I taught the novel.  But I honestly do not recall a year as part of the setting.  It is set in Florida during a huge construction growth and new houses & communities popped up all over the place.  Well, that was common in the 80's in Florida-all the new land growth & development. Part of this huge land growth played into the story plot because of the swamp and ground breaking open, swallowing the school.  

But in the actual novel, I honestly don't recall a year being mentioned.
