  1. I don't think you should hold your son back. Pre K starts from 3-5 until they are old enough for kindergarden. Let him go ahead of her so he can have his own school experience.

My son and your daughter has the same birthday. :)

  2. i definitely wouldn't do that. that would make them more competitive with each other. i think separate years would be better.

  3. I don't think you should hold the boy back.

  4. Readiness depends on the child. The school should offer testing to determine whether your child is ready or not. (If not, your pediatrician may be able to help guide you.) There are a combination of factors to consider: verbal skills, social readiness, gross and fine motor coordination, etc. Basically it boils down to a certain level of maturity.

Boys usually mature slower than girls and that includes in school readiness. However, it will be embarrassing to your son to be in the same grade as his younger sister. If he doesn't resent it right away, he will come to as he progresses in school, particularly if the kids his age are a grade ahead of him.

If your son is not ready for preschool at 3, then start him at 4 in the 4 year old's class and put your daughter in with the 3s if she is ready. She will have 2 yrs. of preschool while he has only one, but that is fine.

Being in the same classroom as a sibling is almost always counter productive.

  5. I'll put your little boy in school first then the little girl that is how they will learn things soon as possible

  6. you should start them off at a private school now there starting to teach them like there in school . dont hold one back because you want to.

  7. Don't hold them back in the same grade!!! They are not twins. They will want their space. They will still go to the same school and high school anyway. Pre k generally starts for 4 year olds.

  8. I dont think you should hold him back.

They're not going to want to be together that much.

I had a friend who is like ten months apart from her brother and she hated it because she didn't get as much attention or enough money to pay for everything. Like you will have to pay double for everything at the same time. Think school dances, graduation, extracurricular activities.

  9. Preschool usually starts at age 3 until age 5 when a child starts kindergarten. I'd send your boy and have your daughter the year behind him. :)

  10. If there is a pre-k 3 where you live, you could go ahead and start him next year.  Being your girl will turn 3 after most schools cut off she would be almost 4 in starting a pre-k 3. He will start school before she does probably anyway so I would not wait.  Plus if you put them in the same class they might want to hang together and not make friends. My little girl was born in Nov, but because her birthday was after the cut off she was almost 4 starting pre-k 3, was almost 5 starting pre-k 4 and just started kindergarten as a 5 almost 6 year old.

  11. There's no reason to hold back your son, unless he's not ready.  That does happen with some boys as they mature more slowly than girls.

But, there's no reason to put your children in pre-k at all.  Children of pre-K age should be at home and can learn everything that they need to there.  Get together with other families and children (and not just ones of the exact same age), but don't send them away to be with a strange adult in a strange place with lots of strange children at that age.  My 2 cents.

  12. It depends on what you are comfortable with. Some enter their kids as early as 3 years old, others wait until they are 5 or 6 (though to me 6 is a little late).

    Katie J - I think she meant 10 months, not 10 years.

  13. no you should have the boy one year ahead of the girl the estimated age is usually around 5 or 6
