What year was the Yamaha FZ400 Fazer launched?

I have a 400cc Yamaha motorcycle which was imported from Japan as a previously-owned unit. I was told it was an FZ400 model, with the nick 'Fazer'. The serial number goes like this "4YR 008XXX" and motor number "4YR 007XXX" (last 3 digits concealed). Nothing on the documents tell me what year make it is, and googling for "yamaha FZ400" yields inconclusive results.

Can anyone tell me what year my bike was manufactured and where? Where can I go for authoritative information on Yamaha motorcycles?

  2. I am thinking 1985 to 1986 somewhere around in there...

Yamaha did the whole FZ type thing around that time Frame...

The FZ400 Fazer, YX 600 Radian, FZ700 or 750 Fazer...and the V-max...all hit the floors about the same time, within a year or so of each other.

I actually owned a Radian 600... parked next to a 1990FZR you couldn't tell a difference in the engine. I surprised a whole lot of people with that bike...looked like a baby V-Max..even had the same color blue paint job.

But anyway..I am going to guess 1985 is when they started making them..im not sure when they stopped.
