  1. Try asking this in the religion section. Even better, try the Creative writing or literature section.

Myths, legends and fairy tales aren't really history.

PS I love Professor Plimer. Big ups for this hero of the geological sciences who was piloried for speaking out against religious fruitcakes. Get ready for a big suprise kid.....THERE WAS NO ARK!

  2. Back from our current time the world flood would be close to 2,500 years B,C. or about 4,500 years ago. The Bible states that the ark stopped on the mountain or mountains of Ararat which is in Turkey nearer to the Iranian side. I sometimes wonder if our military in Iraq have found any evidence about the ark since planes could fly by that area if they really wanted to and there are more satellites now than ever.

As far as a good proof of the flood, there is a white layer of chalk sediment that has been traced around most of the world including the U.S.A. , Ireland (part of the white cliffs of Dover) and Israel which shows that the flood was worldwide.

  3. A flood myth is found in religions from south east Asia to the Middle East and Latin America The Biblical story of Noah's Ark is just one among many as it not to be seen as anything other than a myth. It is possible that the story is a folk memory of something catastrophic. At the end of the last ice-age, about 8000BC a large landmass now called Sundaland was inundated by rising sea wares, leaving only its mountains peeking out - now forming places such as the Phillipine, Malay and Indonesian archipelagos. The myth can be traced from that area westwards.

  4. well for one thing it happened a very long time ago. If you follow biblical text and timeline it, it happened between 1000 and 2000 years after adam and eve first appeared, probably 3000, 2200 B.C. Where it ended up is also an uncertainy though scholars have found wooden remains frozen ontop of Mt. Ararat. Marco Polo claims as he travles to Asia that he could clearly see what appeared to be Noah's Ark on the mountain.

  5. The year of the flood is unknown...please keep in mind that during that time, they may calculate "years" differently, so I think you shouldn't use the numbers in the Bible to calculate the time. But I am very sure that it was at least before 5000BC...so "ancient civilizations", such as Egypt and China, have not began yet.

Noah's ark ended up in the Mountains of Ararat.  Some explorers recently searched the mountains and a huge chunk of wood there, but wood do not exist in the regions around the mountains.

  6. The literal interpretation of Noahs ark never happened. It is likely that the myth evolved from a real life flood, but not one that covered the whole earth. There is no way that noah could have gathered the quarter of a million species of beetles found on earth, or the millions of insects found in the south american jungle (he wouldn't have known south america existed), not to mention all the other  millions of animals on earth. And there is no evidence of a flood covering the entire earth, which a flood that large would have surely left.
