  1. The British tobacco company was Philip Morris, Marlboro was just one of its brands. The name of the street stems from the famous general, John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. Following his victory over the Spanish in 1704 at the Battle of Blenheim, his stately home became Blenheim Palace. I have visited it and it is magnificent. Winston Churchill was a descendant of the Marlboroughs.


  2. They were introduced in 1902... as a womens smoke.

    The name comes from "Great Marlborough Street", which was the location of the original factory in London England.
