  1. God, 5000 BC.

  2. do you really think they were invented ?  Seriously ?

bananas are a highly perishable crop, and until recently, like the past 35-40 years there was not a lot of the crop under cultivation because the transportation issues had not been resolved and the demand was simply not there, samething with pinapples, with mangos, with kiwi and to some extent with oranges.

I was born in 1953 and bananas ( as well as other tropical fruits ) were readily available in places like south Florida where we visited, but not in VA where we lived.

What would be a better question is:  Who was the poor soul to take the first bite of a banana and what did he, or she, think of it ?

  3. Uhm what are you talking about?  Banana's are a very old food.   Who told you that you couldn't get them before 1962?

    Early cultivation

The domestication of bananas took place in southeastern Asia. Many species of wild bananas still occur in New Guinea, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Recent archaeological and palaeoenvironmental evidence at k*k Swamp in the Western Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea suggests that banana cultivation there goes back to at least 5000 BCE, and possibly to 8000 BCE. [8] This would make the New Guinean highlands the place where bananas were first domesticated. It is likely that other species of wild bananas were later also domesticated elsewhere in southeastern Asia.

  4. Please tell me you mean discovered. ??
