  1. Your college, and especially a UC campus, will look at all of your grades. They will probably admit their class during the last semester of its senior year of high school, so they will not be able to take the last semester of grades into consideration. But they may admit provisionally, and wait until those grades are in to make a final decision.

There is an urban myth that colleges don't look at early grades, or late grades, or whatever. This myth is false. The admissions committees look at every factor closely, and then make an all-around judgment.

One failed course should not kill you, but I would certainly do everything you could to take the class again and do very well.  The competition for UCSD is stiff, so your As and Bs and one failed grade may not cut it. I would make sure I prepared well for the SATs and developed a good program of extra-curricular activities. It would also help to talk to an admissions counselor and start following his or her advice and staying in close touch to make sure you are covering all of the bases.

  2. Naturally, they look at all of your grades. However it's weighted in the sense that the more recent the grade, the more important it is to them because it's closer to your current work ethic. They also look to see if improvement was made after a drop in grades, or if you had circumstances beyond your control, etc. Make sure to describe it in your essay when applying.

  3. They mainly look at your cumulative GPA and your ACT and or SAT scores.  They will also look at your extra-curriculars so make sure your not just in the books.  Get involved in school.  One bad grade will not ruin your chances of getting into college.  Your doing better than a lot of people are.  Keep of the good work and good luck.

  4. The Junior Year!!!

  5. They look at your overall GPA but they also look at the grades from the classes that will deal with what your major will be to see if you will succeed.
