  8. tea meaning the evening meal I suppose. Tonight I am having  steak and kidney pie, mashed potato and carrots. The mashed is to provide some carbohydrate for my anti diabetic tablets to work on and the st eak and kidney, while not exactly a healthy choice in view of the pastry content provides a little bit of variety from my usual potato and salad meal; the carrots are to provide a little bit of extra nuitrition and I wonder if they are sufficiently undercooked in view of the current orthodox opinion that overcooking boils out the vitamin content.  At the moment I am on maximum dose of 6 metformin,4 gliclizide and 3 pyoglitazone and I do not think that they are capturing enough sugar from the food as I came into the meal hungry and am still hungry about thirty minutes later. The pancreas has obviously declined in power and even boosted      by these tablets can not store enough sugar and I fear that I will have to go onto insulin injections which is a real pain. Currently the sugar stays high in the bloodstream as the medication is not strong to help into the cell for   burning and therefore it is not available to the system and means that I will be hungry going into the next meal - the main point is to not eat any more as this will competely capsize the sytem by causing a rush of insulin. Once the sugar has been high the insulin arrives late and turns the blood sugar level upside down. The other important factor is to res  tric  your fat intake and of course this is difficult as manufacturers either lower the sugar and compensate by  increasing the fat or the other way round -- and in any case I don't seem to be able to tolerate fat anymore - it lies on my stomach at night.

So, while you still have a choice restrict your sugar intake because once you become diabetic every meal decision becomes a battlefield.
