In Texas all bar and generally waitstaff must be TABC certified.

Depending on the state you live in most counties within the state require to have a bar servers permit. Which means you go to a bar handlers class that is overseen by the state. This usually takes about 2-3 hours and then you get a card that states you've met the qualifications. It's pretty easy, a no brainer.

Depends on where you are. In Australia you have to complete a course to get a Certificate of Responsible Service of Alcohol.

To be a gaming/ poker machine attendant you must do a course to get a Certificate of Responsible Conduct of Gaming.

You don't need a license to be a bartender, the bar needs a license.  You need experience as a bartender to be hired in as a bartender, some restaurants promote within, so you get training as a bartender.
