    Sleep or invite troubles for your body !

    All the sleeping pills are chemicals which affect the limbic system of the central nervous system of your body (BRAIN & SPINAL CORD).The Pharmacokinetics (the effect of the drug on the body ) of the sleeping pills is to subdue the function of conscious mind.All the chemicals known to the man are not devoid of ADVERSE EFFECTS.    So

    BEWARE !

    What all you need is sound sleep.

    Here I give you a good method to slumber.Lie on your back in your bed ,gently shut the eyes,think of your GOD,deity or your Guru and install HIM / HER on the big toe.Imagine SHe is moving up your leg.Believe it, by the time it reaches your calf or the knee you would go to DEEP and very sound SLEEP.

    Experience with complete faith.

    Your body is a temple where YOU , a soul  reside and enjoy the life granted to you as a physical self.


  2. I do not recommend sleeping pills but rather solving the problems that cause difficulty sleeping.

    Take a moderate walk for at least 20 minutes a couple of hours before bed time. Stop eating at least 3 hours before bed time. Stop taking caffeine after 5 PM. Do not drink alcohol, while it makes you sleepy at first, it will cause interrupted sleep.

    Eat more veggies and less meat, especially reduce meats and cheeses at night.

    Manage stress, meditate, get Reik treatments.

    If you still have trouble sleeping gentle herbal remedies like camomile and valerian can help.

    Sleeping pills strain the kidneys and liver as they need to filter out the chemicals, some are habit forming and all have some side effects, also, if they help you to sleep without having to change the problems in your life or habits that are interfering with sleep, you are then ignoring the important messages your body is communicating to you.

    If your lifestyle is harmful to you in some way and you continue without changing, these same factors that have given you difficulty sleeping will continue to act on your body until you develop more serious problems and for each more serious symptom that you mask with drugs an even more serious problem will arrive in its place. Best to listen to the body and eliminate the cause.

  4. Sleep and that too a "sound sleep" is one of the three pillars of good health as described in Ayurveda.

         Unless there is some other reason like surgeries or accidental cases where the pains are unbearable then only the sleeping pills are recomended.

        First find out why the sleeplessness exist ?  Try  to eliminate the root cause.

    It could be one or few among the followings

    Lack of Physical excercise

    Unwanted happenings in the home or the place of work.

    Mental TENSIONS,

    High Blood pressures

    Ineffieient Digestive system

    May be over sleeping during the day time.

       Diffrent medicines are available in   Ayurvedic systems which reduces and clears the root cause of the problem and the problem vanishes.

      Any ayrvedic doctor will be able to help you out for these as a permanent cure.

      Taking OTC pills is strongly not advisable because most of them could be habit forming.

  7. As Sarah says, Valerian root is best as it has no after effects, you also sleep soundly and awake refreshed without feeling drousy, which is good if you need to drive.

  9. Nytol (not the herbal type). Try the '2 a night' then you can see if one is enough. I often just take a half (i.e. a quarter of the full dose) if I wake during the night and can't get back to sleep. They are anti histamines which make you drowsy. Check with the pharmacist that you are ok to take them. Don't take them regularly as they are habit forming.

  10. Something with Valerian Root extract in it will give you a terrific sleep just take two an hour before going to bed. You'll be asleep before your head hits the pillow. Also, drink no caffine after 6pm and have a warm bath with lavender in it.
