Question:

What you think about a London F1 Race?

There have been rumours that the British Grand Prix at Silverstone could be axed from the F1 Calendar after 2009. There should have also been rumours that there could be a new venue for the British GP at London or no British Grand Prox at all. I would like to see a race on the streets of London as it would be more interesting.

Should the British Grand Prix be got rid of? or be kept at Silverstone? or moved to London or anywhere else? What you think?

  1. Well from a residents point of view, it would be an absolute nightmare.  I live by wimbledon and the increase in traffic when the tennis is on is bad enough, but can you imagine how it would be with the city streets closed off for the best part of a week.

Im sure it would be a spectacular race, but just too difficult to do.  The race should be kept on a track, besides silverstone has some of the best high speed corners on the calender

  2. I'd axe all Street racing its boring, no passing hardly any good veiwing points (apart from the big screens) snail pace racing only the drivers like Monaco because of the Glitz, Canada wasn't safe, most street races are won in the pits

  3. If you've ever tried to drive around London on a 'good' day then you know that a 'London GP' just cannot happen. Not only will Bernie p iss off 7milion residents by the horrific disruption (on top of all the normal levels of disruption) there will be the security nightmare of potential 'undesireables' wanting to throw themselves onto the track. If that mad catholic Father can run down Hangar straight then laying down flat in Piccadilly circus waiting to blow up a Ferrari will be a piece of cake.

Seriously though, Boris, commentators, spectators and drivers WAG's would love it, but Londoner's would hate it

Bernie needs to leave Silverstone alone. It doesn't bear thinking about to have an F1 season without a British GP.

  4. The FIA seem to hate Silverstone and no doubt a race in London would be spectacular. However I believe motor racing should be on a specially prepared track and I do think it would be wiser to make radical improvements to Silverstone and provide better facilities for patrons of the race.

  5. All street races (including Monaco) should get the ax.  The cars are too fast to make them worth it.

  6. A London GP would be a logistical nightmare. Not only that, but can you imagine the field-day the security services would have picking up "suspected" trouble-makers and security risks in the weeks leading up to the race?

There will be a British GP, it's just Bernie trying to make the BRDC sell off some of their rights to outside investors who may actually invest some money in the facilities.

  7. I don't know if that's a good idea. Having a race in a capital city is bound to get on some people's nerves. Traffic jams might occur due to road closures and such. And there's the question of pitlane structures. Is there enough space for them?

The British GP should remain on the calendar. If Silverstone is not a good venue, then Bernie has to find a better one. The GP should only be axed if things turn out for the worse. (Like maybe poor race turnout and lousy amenities at the race track)

  8. Keep it on a track. the logistics of staging a GP in London would just be too much. It wouldn't be good for fans either as London is hard enough to get around without half the roads closed and people from all over the world trying to get to it. If Silverstone is removed then they should try another track. Perhaps a new one could be built, or old ones revamped. A lot of people camp. camping would be impossible if the event was staged in the middle of our capital city.

  9. If Silverstone get's the axe it's because they couldn't raise enough money to bring the facilities up to date.

So where would the money for a London GP come from?

It's not going to happen for various reasons and I wouldn't like it to happen for this reason:

Either it's too fast so people can overtake in which case it's extremely dangerous or it's too slow so it's relatively safe like Monaco in which case it's a procession.

  10. I love the Silverstone circuit very much but if it will ever be removed, a street circuit in London just like Monaco would be bloody fantastic! But I don't think it will happen since transportation will be almost impossible during Formula 1 time. There MUST be a British Grand Prix though. There are lots of people here who love Formula 1. Some countries doesn't even have enough audience...

  11. I think that a London street event would be suite. It would hopefully bring more revenue and TV ratings to F1.

  12. A GP on the streets of London may be a great thought, but it would likely be a nightmare to work with - no doubt people would moan at roads being closed for a few days a year, it would end up causing traffic chaos. Mind you, if people were  tolerant about it and accepted it could be a great spectacle (as well as bringing in more tourists etc), then it is not impossible.

In reality, though, it would be far better to transform Silverstone into a circuit that at least equals the newer circuits, either by building on what is already there or start from scratch elsewhere. It would be a real shame if Britain lost a GP.

  13. Oh please, with our Health and Safety Elfs?? Ha, as if they would ever allow it. Not to mention, all the F1 cars would have to pay the congestion charge, can you imagine how much they'll get charged for the amount of CO2 they'll contribute lol..

I wish they did it would be a great idea, but it is never going to happen.

  14. they can't have a grand prix in london too much hassle and also it will be very complicated and confusing!

and with all the traffic etc...

  15. the big rewards of londres doesn't give profit they do remove

    hugs direct of the Brazil
