Question:

What your opinion on Ebay's recent price hike?

The recent price hikes are designed to root out the new comers and strengthen those who are established. In effect they are turning the site from a car-boot sale into a shopping centre making it so that the hobby seller and everyday-joe can only effectively use the site as buyers? Has the internet lost its one and only on-line pawn-shop, or is the change a good one with legitimate business taking the helm?

  1. ebay has gone down the toilet a bit in my opinion, along with the price hikes is it now awash with fake goods and dodgy sellers.  i certainly dont use it as much as i used to for both reasons.

  2. i purely think they are taking libertys to be honest ... they know they are pulling in the business and now its up and established they need to make more money out of it. rip offs!!!

  3. Hi i have to agree with you ,there is more shops than private sellers ,dont get me wrong i got good bargins on ebay ,but the problem is that private sellers are been priced out of it,time the got a rap on the knukles our some one opens another rival company.

  4. I bailed out a while ago because of the last price hike, it's like being punished for buying and selling.

If you also use paypal then you have double the costs and more.

There are still plenty of free or lower priced auction sites out there, try them.

  5. All successful companies seem to go through stages. These are :  Success. Bigger Growth. Greed. More Greed. Bigger Growth. Customer loss. Bust!!

If I were in charge of EBay I would be looking after those that helped me grow. We have seen the results of greed all too often.

  6. If you look at the new fees, very little is changing for auction listings, which I assume is what your question is based on.

Insertion fees remain as they are now, the gallery upgrade will no longer be charged for (so saving 15p a throw) and the final value fee on most items is going up slightly (the FVF on an item selling for £10 will be 12.5p more than it is at the moment).

The real 'killer' for the little guy will be the new 'best match' default search - which really does favour business sellers - not the upcoming price change.

  7. Either Ebay let the money go to their heads or Uncle Sam is taking more from them considering our countries recent financial debt.

I think someone should put EBAY on the spot and ask why they are charging more when price inflation is really hurting the middle and lower classes.

  8. I would think that the average person will be priced out and only businesses will now sell. I already wait for their 5p listing days as by the time you have paid eBay and Paypal there is no money to be made. If only businesses sell there will be no variety like all the shopping centres up and down the country. I will be doing a search for other auction sites.

  9. My answer is if you sell handmade, vintage or art supplies, you should run as fast as you can from Ebay & come over to Etsy.com!  :)   It's a great site for buying & selling all things handmade.  I love it there!  & if you want hints & tips about selling on Etsy, you might check out my blog. There is a lot of good stuff there.
