Question:

Whatever happened to John LeClair, Roman Checkmanek, Shawn McEachern, Sergei Berezin and Ziggy Palffy?

I'm wondering what happened to these 4 players that I remember watching as a little kid and who were at some time pretty good. Does anybody know? Did they retire, go to Europe, or what?

  2. Sergei Berezin was one of my favorite Leafs. He's probably somewhere in Europe. Palffy, another one of my favorite players had to retire.

    McEachern I swear I saw on a roster in Europe as well.

    Either the British League or German league.

    I found tons of ex-IHLers and NHLers over there

  3. John LeClair is probably retired. No one wanted him anymore, which is always sad to find out. The Pens put him through waivers twice then bought out the contract.

    Ziggy Palffy abruptly retired midway through the season like 3 years ago. Apparently he was still hurt/injured from before, but officially no word from the team. He went to the Pens mid-season and explained to them that he had to retire for personal reasons as they explained it.

    Not sure about the other two, only know those two because I'm a Pens fan.

    Cechmanek plays for Trinec in the Czech league

    McEachern is retired, last played in the Bruins system in 2005-06

    Berezin is retired, last played in Russia in 2004

    Palffy is retired, last played in 2005-06.

    King, are you sure about Palffy?  He's spent a lot of the last year in Los Angeles working with the LA Kings and is currently exploring scouting/coaching options with the NHL teams.  He also does not show up in the database as playing anywhere (He did play for Skalicka in 2004).

    McEachern currently resides in the Boston area and has embarked on his post-NHL career with the Northeastern University Huskies hockey team.
