  1. What happened is that parents dont step up and take responsibility for teaching their children how to become a responsible and respectful person. It's up to the parents to teach this. Not the schools, not the churches, not the neighbors, but THE PARENTS! Too many parents are too involved with their own lives to deal with their kids. It's very annoying. Kids today are very disrespectful. When's the last time you saw a teenager hold a door for someone? It's almost nonexistant these days. Pretty sad that parents are just setting these kids up for failure.

  2. I don't know.

I believe that a lot of people do still have these qualities, but there is still no doubt that some don't.

CD: I'm a teenager and I always hold the door for people.

    so.........

  3. Are you under the impression that everyone used to have these qualities?

    NOT!

People have made exactly your complaint as long as there have been people. That's because people tend to glorify the past, as though everyone acted according to the ideals of the time; but what they notice about the present is the bad stuff, which sticks out.

In many ways these qualities have never been more common and more universalized. (Not long ago, more than half the species was seen as less-than-human, for instance; and we have much greater sense of responsibility for, say the well-being of the planet, and all people on it than ever before.)

  4. We did away with respect. It followed honor, loyalty and chivalry...

When was anyone ever responsible ? (not for their own actions anyways).
