Whatever happened to the Beanie Baby popularity?

They used to be so popular. Many, many different ones were made. Why did this craze just stop? I still enjoy collecting them, but mostly find them only at garage sales or thrift shops. Was it because there were just so many produced that they were not special anymore, or what?

It was just a fad.  Another fad came out Webkinz.  That will be replaced by a fad soon.
