In an episode on Season 5 of Project Runway they designed an outfit (that I didn't particularly care for anyway) and told the designers & TV audience that it (the winning design) would be worn by the US Women's Olympic Team at the opening ceremony. Well, that simply didn't happen. The US team (men and women) wore Ralph Lauren. Anybody know what happened? Did Bravo bother to release an explanation?

  1. I think you misunderstood. The winning design was not supposed to be worn at the Olympics.

  2. In that episode when Tim Gunn was explaining the challenge, he said that in the 2008 Olympics, the US athletes will wear Ralph Lauren design.  So, the winning design wins immunity, and not to be worn in the Olympics.

  3. They weren`t going to wear the design. They were asked to design something for the Olympics but they weren`t going to have the athletes wear it. I dont remeber them saying that the winning designer would have the outfit wore by the athletes. The Olympics are way to important to have some random designer do it. They had Ralph Lauren planned out years before the project runway show. I love project runway but I don't think i would have wanted any of our athletes wear what they created on that episode. Too much fashion, not wearable for athletes.

  4. The challenge was just for the designers to create a design IF they were to create the Olympic outfits.  It's just hypothetical.  If the designers were put in charge of creating the Olympic uniforms, what would they make?  The outfit was never intended to be worn during the Olympics.
