Whatis platnum and does it occur as a metal or is it made from mixing metals?

I asked a question earlier about gold, silver and mercury being in the same area. I had a rock that I found in the area checked out and was told it had traces of gold silver and pletnum but was not "rich" enough to become excited about.

Could "richer" proportions be in the same area?

Platinum is a rather rare and expensive metal.  There might be richer concentrations in your area but it wouldn't be worth your effort to go after them.  Tons upon tons of ore are mined for a single ounce of platinum.
