Whatmore called http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Yousuf-c77465 for fitness Test– Cricket News Update
Out of favour Pakistani Test cricketer, Mohammad Yousuf, could be in line to make an unexpected return for the national team after he was called up for a fitness test by head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, at the National Cricket Academy Lahore. The player will be
monitored closely and could be considered for selection for the team’s upcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, starting from June 1.
The former captain has not participated in any of the domestic games, while his last international outing came against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in August 2010.
Apart from Yousuf, fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 will take part in different training sessions under the direct supervision of fielding mentor,
Julien Fountain.
With the team struggling to find consistency in their batting lineup, Yousuf's impending return is seen as a positive sign for the Men In Green, since he has the ability and stature to provide solidarity to the middle-order. His fitness remains an issue
however, following a self-imposed exile from domestic cricket for the past 12 months.
Yousuf's batting prowess has been widely admired, including impressive averages in Tests (52.29) and ODIs (41.71), and his inclusion is expected to benefit the team – bringing in a wealth of experience for the younger players.
His most notable feat came in 2006, when he broke Viv Richards’ 30-year-old record and became the first player to score 1788 runs, in 11 Tests, in a calendar year.
Despite such reputable figures, it will be interesting to see the stance taken by the PCB, who earlier banned the player, following a disastrous tour of 2010 – which ended on a winless note. However, the final outcome hinges on his appetite for the sport.
