Whatmore calls for separate teams for three formats – Cricket News Update
The newly appointed head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, said on Sunday that he was in favour of having separate teams for all three formats of the game.
In an interview with Geo News, a private news channel in Pakistan, the Australian said that the requirements of each format of the game are different from each other, and this is the reason why he has always been in favour of having separate teams for Test, ODIs and T20 cricket.
"Personally I am in favour of having separate players for the different formats of the sport. Because the requirement of each format is different," said Whatmore, who took over as the head coach of Pakistan from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 last month.
Many teams in the world have separate captains for at least the T20 format. Pakistan also had separate captains for Test and One Day formats of the game, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in May last year. Since then, Misbah has been leading the Men in Green in all three formats of the game.
The 58-year-old former Australian Test batsman has said that he is ready to face the challenge of having separate teams for the three formats, further adding that he is enjoying the full support of the PCB chairman, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 in this regard.
Whatmore, who has the experience of coaching other Sub-Continental teams, which include http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, Bangladesh and the IPL side the Kolkata Knight Riders, said that he saw his role with the Pakistan team as a challenge and was already enjoying working with the team.
Last month’s quadrangular Asia Cup in Bangladesh was Whatmore’s first international assignment with Pakistan. He was happy that the Misbah-led side won the title for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 after a long wait of more than a decade.
"Unfortunately we couldn't win all our matches in the tournament but we ended up bringing back the cup home and that gave me satisfaction. The defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 was a setback but they played well on that day," said the former Sri Lankan coach, who guided the Islanders to their only World Cup title in 1996.
