Whatmore confident about his coaching abilities-Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s head coach, Davenell Whatmore, says he is excited to be working with the Men in Green, and is confident that his abilities will help the national team to achieve success in the near future.
“I really do want to be consistent, I’m about winning,” said Whatmore while talking to Abu Dhabi’s
The National.
Whatmore took charge of the national team in March this year, taking over from interim coach, Moshsin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 in October 2011.
The 58-year-old was also shortlisted in past for the same post after the death of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Francis-Lawson-c58815.
When asked about the previous snub, Whatmore expressed his regret for being overlooked, as he considered himself competent for the head coach role, when compared to the rest of the foreign candidates.
 “I didn’t have any second thoughts. But I would’ve preferred to have signed earlier. I was confident enough in my own ability when compared to previous foreign coaches,” said Whatmore.
The Men in Green have achieved success with their new coach, lifting the 2012 Asia Cup by defeating hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the final. He is further enjoying his stint, claiming that he has the support of the players, all of whom have been practicing hard despite
the evident lack of competitive cricket.
The former Sri Lankan coach is determined to develop a formidable outfit, with the main aim of including fresh faces, who have performed well in the domestic season. He has conducted various training sessions, in a bid to assess the strengths and weaknesses
of the Men in Green, while hoping that his methods with rectifying the team’s shortcomings.
Earlier, the Sri Lankan born mentor had attended the Faisal Bank Super Eight Twenty20 tournament, held in late March, and shortlisted the most promising players, who could make their way into the national squad.  
Whatmore further provided his take on the current cricketing drought in the country, claiming that he has not faced any trouble during his two-month stint so far.
“It’s a familiar experience, not all that different over the years to the different countries I have lived in. It’s a very interesting chapter in my life,” said the head coach.
