Whatmore praises Misbah’s “stable outlook” – Cricket News Update
Pakistan head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972, saying his balanced and reasonable outlook is ideally suited to the leadership position he occupies.
“He’s a big thinker, very solid personality. He doesn’t go to extremes. He’s very stable in his outlook,” Whatmore observed. “He doesn’t get carried away too much when you lose or win.”
“That is a very good thing, to be stable in your emotions. Being a good thinker, that really helps from a leadership point of view. In fairness, he may think a number of things quite strongly about certain players but it’s not communicated. The communication
is always positive and that is a very good thing.”
Misbah took over the Test captaincy from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 was let go after a spat with the Pakistan Cricket Board. His style of captaincy has frequently come under fire, most
recently during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755-England series in the UAE earlier this year.
The 37-year-old led the side successfully in series and against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, and the series in the UAE got off to a superb start after Pakistan managed to whitewash the Poms (currently ranked at the top on the ICC’s Test team rankings) 3-0 in
the Test series.
However, from there onwards, it appeared to be a downhill slide for the Men In Green, as they went on to lose both the ODI (4-0) and T20 series (2-0), with experts and fans alike criticising Misbah for his passive, and apathetic attitude to captaining the
team in the limited-overs format of the game.
Notable critics included former Pakistan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Akhtar-c90080, both of whom opined that Misbah was unsuited to captaincy in the shorter format of the game.
However, the right-hander managed to silence critics after he led the team to victory in the Asia Cup, held in Bangladesh during March this year. Despite a crushing 6-wicket defeat at the hands of arch-rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, Pakistan won every match they played,
and defeated Bangladesh by 2 run to emerge victorious on March 22.
With Whatmore’s backing, Misbah’s post appears fairly secure, and the skipper will be leading the Men In Green as they prepare for a tour of Sri Lanka later this year in June.
