Whatmore rules out security concerns in Pakistan – Cricket News Update
Pakistan national cricket team head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, expressed his disappointment after the cancellation of the proposed Bangladesh tour, following a court order, which ruled out the possibility of their close neighbours travelling to the cricket starved
region.
Whatmore reiterated that he has not faced any security-related issues, claiming that the country is safe for hosting international cricket.
Earlier, in the last week, Bangladesh High Court passed a ruling, restricting the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from sending the national team to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, despite the scheduled tour, which included a solitary One-Day International and a T20, which was
given a go-ahead by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mustafa-Kamal-c78122, the BCB’s chief.
The major stumbling block was seen as the reluctance shown by the Bengali players and coaches, along with some of the board officials.
The hesitation from his former team however, has baffled the 58-year-old, who felt that it has hindered the Men In Green’s progress as they were eagerly awaiting the resumption of cricket on their own backyard.
"It is a bit disappointing," Whatmore said. "We were planning to quickly get started with training, but all that has been knocked on the head with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 not coming."
“From my point of view … I was born in Sri Lanka and lived through a civil war there and I am now staying in Lahore for the last two months where I have been moving around freely and I don’t have any problems in terms of security and if I knew more areas
in Lahore I would be visiting more of Lahore,” said Whatmore.
Despite this setback, PCB remain keen on finding other possible ways to revive cricket in the country. It includes two high-profile T20 tournaments – Pakistan Champions League, which is scheduled to commence from May 20 and will feature a total of 32 club
level teams including one each from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saudi-Arabia-c3000, and the Pakistan Premier League, expected to take place later in the year.
The second event will be Pakistan's first ever international league, aimed to attract international players and is drafted similar to the more famed IPL and the inaugural BPL, held earlier in the year.
As for the national team, their next assignments pits them against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, in the end of May this year.
