Whatmore signs a two-year contract to coach Pakistan – Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced the appointments of Davenell Whatmore and Julien Fountain as the Head and Fielding Coach, respectively for the national team. Both international mentors arrived in Lahore on March 2 and have signed two-year
contracts with the PCB - effective from March 04, 2011.
The appointments are made by the chairman PCB, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in their limited-overs leg of the tour at UAE. The chairman is very hopeful about his new acquisitions, which in turn
will help work for the betterment of the team. He also praised the committee in finding the best candidates for the vacant posts.
“I am happy to have http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571 and Julien Fountain as a part of our setup and hope they can ensure Pakistan always puts up fighting performances, whether we lose or win,” said Zaka.
Whatmore is very excited over his new role and is confident of turning around the team’s fortunes, which witnessed a downward trend in the latter parts of the series against the Poms.
“We will do our best to produce the best results with our available talent and I am confident of good results. I know this http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team has talent but we have to seal with the inconsistency problem,” said Whatmore.
The appointment of a qualified coach has come after the resignation of ex-Head Coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595, who guided Pakistan to series
wins against Bangladesh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, along with the 3-0 Test drubbing of England in his 6-month interim tenure.
Apart from Whatmore, Fountain will be looking to work at one of the weakest areas of the Men in Green - fielding. A former English county player, the 37-year-old has previously served Pakistan by working with the A side as an assistant and specialist fielding
mentor.
“I have taken this post as a challenge and will try my best to lift Pakistan’s fielding,” said the top-class specialist.
The first assignment of the newly appointed men will encircle around a training camp before the upcoming mega event, Asia Cup, which starts on March 11, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 - where the Green shirts will begin the tournament by locking horns with the hosts at Dhaka.
