  1. Everything in moderation is fine for you.  Eat well, exercise and ENJOY life. Don't fret over someone's version of "healthy".

  2. Olive oil and wine vinegar make a healthy dressing, just add some herbs and it will be very tasty.

Or make a greek yogurt dressing this is so good:

    1/2 cup plain yogurt

    1/4 cup sour cream

    3 tablespoons milk

    1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper

    1/4 teaspoon dried oregano leaves

    1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix until blended. Store, covered, in refrigerator up to 3 days.

  3. My favorite is by Amy's (they make a lot of organic stuff) and is a raspberry vinaigrette.  It's low fat and isn't too sweet like some other brands.  Really, any salad dressing is okay if you don't pack it on.  Try adding other things (healthy things) to your salad so you don't need dressing, like shredded carrots, cucumbers, etc.  Or try adding some nuts.

  4. 1 c. olive oil

1/2 c. white wine vinegar (start with 1/4 c. and add more after its made to please your tastes)

    1 clove minced garlic

    1 tsp cumin

1 tab lemon juice (or leave it out if you don't have a lemon)

    2 tsp dijon mustard

    1 tsp salt

    1-2 tsp sugar

various ammounts of dried herbs (thyme, italian seasoning, basil, etc)

    1/2 c. fresh basil leaves

Blend that in a blender, and then adjust the herbs to taste (you can add a little extra olive oil to mellow it out if you wish).

Its a very good salad dressing. You can drizzle it over blanched beans as well and it tastes amazing. If you make it, I would suggest you start with less white wine vinegar and then add more at the end if you feel it needs more. I always make it from scratch w/o measuring spoons so I can't remember the exact measurements for dijon mustard and cumin so start with 1 tsp and add more to your tastes. I've never met anyone who didn't like this dressing.

If you don't want to cook, I love the Lighthouse brand of red wine and olive oil dressing. Its yummy!

  5. An olive oil-based vignarette.  Olive oil is healthy for you, and helps lower cholesterol levels......  stay away from creamy dressings, especially with mayonnaise in them

  6. The creamy ones are the worst for you.  Thousand island, ranch blue cheese are all bad.  Try something that's not as thick like italian or catalina.  Read the ingredients on the back of the bottle.  Don't buy something if you can't read most of the ingredients.  If you are looking to cut calories get your salad dressing on the side, dip your fork in the salad dressing and then scoop up the salad.  It will taste the same but will be eating way less dressing and your salad won't get soggy.

  7. Galeo's Miso Dressings.

I SWEAR you cannot taste the miso.  Now, I love miso, but I know it's an odd flavor for the average salad dressing.  Their Caesar dressing tastes exactly like any other bottled caesar dressing.

But the BONUS?  For 1 TBSP it only has 14 calories & 1 gram of fat.

Now if you're like me and eat salads as an excuse to eat dressing, you can get ALOT of dressing to salad greens for a small amount of a calories & fat.  And, there isn't any funky chemical ingredients or high fructose corn syrup.
