  1. It's reliable except in bad weather, but coach is NOT like first class... you get a really mixed group of travellers, it's a step up from the bus but a similar crowd.


  2. The trains are reliably on time--you should get to your destination within a few minutes of your scheduled arrival time.  The coach seats are comfortable--about equivalent to flying first-class.

    The number of station stops in between depend on the exact train, but averages around nine or 10.  The stops are very brief.

    In short, it's a reliable and comfortable way to get between DC and New York, without the hassle of flying.  Folks on expense accounts take the Acela Express.  Folks traveling out of their own wallet take the regional service trains.
