The driveway to my house, which is at the bottom of a hill, is very steep, and I want to know if when it snows, is it better to drive up the driveway in reverse (back up the driveway) or better to drive normally (Drive forward up the Driveway).

  1. It its a rear wheel drive then you reverse as this is the lowest gear ratio allowing you low rpm to the back wheels thus avoiding wheel spin whilst giving good traction

  2. It depends on whether you have rear or front wheel drive. It is better to pull a car along on slippery surfaces than to use the opposite axle to push the vehicle along.

That is - drive forward with front wheel drive or reverse with rear wheel drive.

  3. Whichever way is most comfortable to you. I personally would drive forward. Drive in low or 2nd gear. Either that or park at the bottom and walk the way up. I don't know how long the driveway is, just that it is steep.

  4. Always drive in front ways either with FWD or with RWD, it is much safer.

  5. doesnt matter if its front or real wheel drive. you always want to go foreward because youll always have control of the steering. thats the most important of driving in the snow. i think you should put plow or shovel the driveway first..haha
