Whats Butlins like?

We are going to corfu in 2 weeks time but its with relatives. We fancy a holiday in september, just me, my hubby & our 18 month old daughter. We don't have a lot to spend , butlins seems in our price range & they have a lot on site which means we won;t need to go off and amuse ourselves by paying to get into places.

We're thinking of the one in Skegness, has anyone been to Butlins & can you give me your honest opinion of your stay?

Thanks :o)

  1. Butlins is chav-tastic. Beds were very uncomfy, and the food was second rate. We quite enjoyed the evening entertainment, but really only because it was free, and i could have a beer while the kids watched. They enjoyed it, but at 18 months, i think your daughter may be upset by the very loud music and very bright tights, and if she wants to go to sleep, she'll find it hard.

We looked at going again, but found out that going to Spain self catering was much much cheaper, so thats my advice.

  2. We hated it in Minehead - queues everywhere and canteen food. Couldn't go in the shower as it was really manky. Don't do it!

  3. I've never been to be honest, but thought you may enjoy the joke.

I went to butlins a while ago.......

And there were these old age pensioners all hanging from the ceiling above the dance floor,

Horrified I asked a redcoat what the h**l was going on.

HE TOLD ME IT WAS A SWINGING SIXTIES WEEKEND !

You may also want to check out Center Parcs as an alternative, and I hope you enjoy your holiday.

  4. its OK 4 a weekend skeggy that is  me i think its far to expensive but quit a few of me m8ts have bin and loved it  its good 4 little kids

  5. Bognor one is bloody awful

  6. hyped up.  Full of Benefit claimants mainly

  7. I thought it was a dissapointment

  8. We love Butlins and have already been to Skegness this year.

There is lots to do - although we've found we've been able to enjoy more of the entertainment since our kids have got a bit older.  However, every night there is a kids disco and Billy Bear (kids love him!) turns up and has a dance on stage to kids music.  That's every night from about 6pm and starts with music for tots! It's in Home of the REDS- you do have to be there early to get a seat though!

The Redcoats are great and provide great entertainment on their own.

Bob the builder, Angelina Ballerina and lots of other characters are there too and some rides just for the smaller kids. There is also and indoor play area and a panto once a week (again you need to queue to get a seat)

Half Board is definitely more value for money -  meals are great and you can eat as much as you like with great choices too.  If you go self catering I would take your own food because it is definitely not cheap eating at their outlets!!

If you go in school term time there are some great bargains!

Like I mentioned earlier I think we've had more to do since our kids have got a bit older- but we took our first child when he was 18 months old and enjoyed it thoroughly....

I better point out the downside is the queues - but we usually go in peak season so is probably not as bad at other times.

As for it being full of people on benefits etc - thats rubbish we both have good jobs and usually go to Florida or Butlins...  It is not as cheap as you might think though.. lots of things on site you have to pay extra for

Give it a try - I'm sure you will love it!

  9. The only thing you get for free is the entertainment, the pool and some kids rides which you little one couldn't go on, they charge for everything else so it doesn't make a cheap holiday when you add it up. Oh and if Skegness is like Bognor you will be sleeping it what can only be described as a glorified  two storey sheds, dont cough you will wake up the neighbours.

  10. you'll love it...if you're a scumbag.
