  1. There is so much of lasting value that can be derived from Hume's work, including his groundbreaking (for the time) "History of England" opus which focused on intellectual and economic history rather than a linear treatment of military campaigns.  Personally, I find his most significant contribution stems from his consideration of the relationship between the individual, the moral, and society.  The supreme moral good, according to his view, is benevolence, an unselfish regard for the general welfare of society that Hume regarded as consistent with individual happiness.

    Interesting fact - he was into p**n by way of nudy pics from those days... and, as Kim mentioned above, he had racist views, unfortunately.
