    Consider what the reaction would be if you asked,

    "What is a N*****?"

    The reaction to this should be the same.

  4. Yes............ a derogatory word for gypsies. Don't know why but round these parts they are also called diddycoys.

  5. In Australia, the origin of Gypo came from World War One returning soldiers.

    They used the term Gypo when talking about Egyptians and anything Egyptian.

    A "gypo" town or village was a town or village in Egypt.

    Due to the fact that the Egyptian traders were naturally out to make a profit and often times over charged the soldiers for items such as souvenirs etc.

    To be "gypted", became a common term for being charged too much.

    These terms have almost disappeared from the Australian language today.
