  1. MIT is not an Ivy League university. It is a private university located in Cambridge MA just about a mile from Harvard and BU.

MIT is the premiere technical university in the world, recognized world wide for the excellence of its students and faculty and the research they do. Numerous great inventions have been created here, and hundreds, if not thousands, of start up companies have been launched by MIT connected scientists.

MIT is extremely hard to get into as an undergraduate (or graduate, for that matter). You need to be an absoultely top student, especially in math. If you do not have an 800 or pretty darn close in your math SAT then you probably should forget about going there. You probably couldn't get in anyway, but if you did, you would have a very tough time surviving the required math courses.

Besides high SATs you need to be the kind of person who loves absolutely LOVES technology. I was at MIT talking to the head of their computer services department once about ten years ago. I asked him how much training they did for students who need to use all their different computers. He said, "None. If they need training, they shouldn't be at MIT. When they dont know how to do something, we give them the technical manual and they work it out on their own."

    That's what MIT is like.

  2. MIT is just like any other university, the only thin is that it's an Ivy League school. There will be higher expectations to get into the school and during school. Also, as expected by it's name, the particular field in which the school excels is technology related education and research.

Though to get in, you're gonna need to be near the top of your class etc. when you apply and graduate. The school does cost somewhere around $50k/yr for tuition but alot is covered by grants and other student aid. There is specifically a no-loan financial aid program from them for families making under 75k/yr.

  3. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend had a 4.6 GPA (weighted), won the school science fair, won the state science fair, third in international science fair, took 8 AP classes in high school, but he wasn't in any sports or anything like that, he was kind of only into books, not really that well rounded.

But if you have the extracurriculars go for it!!!!!!

But they don't take AP credit for a lot of classes-even if you got like a 5, you usually retake those at their school.

But hey go for it, I know people that were not as good as my best friend and they got in.  they weren't as good as him.

  4. My cousin got in with a gpa in the 5s, perfect SAT scores, and was the captain of his high school baseball team.
