'What's Occuring' at Newcastle is winning for Varley
Amanda Varley had two racers, What's Occuring and Tedo Wolfy, in the first race of the day at Newcastle, an A8 race over 480m, and another in the second race.
Occuring, the 2-1 race favourite, was close behind Wolfy as they headed into the final stretch of the race after a good start by every competitor. Wolfy had led from the second bend, but it was not to be for the 4-1 hound as Occuring won the battle against his kennelmate, taking first place by just a neck in the final stretch. Occuring ended with a time of 30.68 seconds while Wolfy was close behind with a time of 30.70.
Finishing in third place was Blue Shirt, 1.75 lengths behind Wolfy, and in fourth was 10-1 longshot Blue Noodles. Last place went to Rejected Lady.
The second race of the day saw Dunmail Fly take first place over Varley’s A Ken Rocky, with a time of 29.90s. The A4 race over 480m wasn’t close as Fly flew out of the traps on her way to a convincing 3.5 win over Rocky. The 9-2 Rocky, who started in the first trap, but pushed into the middle before retreating back to the rails, finished with a time of 30.18.
In third place by 1.75 lengths over Old Ford Ruby was Witton Marina. Behind them in fifth was Vicarage Lou Lou, and in last place was Fireswild.
Dotland Green took the third race, an A7 race, over Hammys Bluey with a time of 30.64. Bluey took an early lead with Green close behind, but a late surge by Green gave her the come-from-behind win by a half length.
Maldinis Bird, a 5-2 joint favourite, took third behind Bluey by one length, and the other joint favourite, Evish Brindle, finished in fifth place behind Gan on Sue. In sixth was Stay Strong who had a clear run, but wasn’t strong enough to move up from last place.
The fourth race saw its 9-4 race favourite, Distant Motion finish a distance fifth to Boultonian Jan, who took first place with a time of 30.03 and 2.75 lengths ahead of Mistley Issue. In third,three-quarter lengths behind Issue, was Alrightthereted who beat Aulton Crash by two lengths. Finishing in last was Lil Princess.
