  1. To sautee means to cook in a pan with some oil or butter, to soften and cook the onions.  They'll turn clear in color, but be careful, onions can be overcooked this way and it'll fall apart or get reallly mushy and not hold it's shape.

    A replacement for those spices would be Italian seasonings found in your seasoning section.... Schilling makes them.


  2. Twisted -- To make Saut'ed onions cook them at a low temp. untill they are just tender done and are opake in color.

    I think the closest thing to oregano and basil

    would be Itilian seasoning. I hope this is what you were looking for. jim b

  3. usually you melt a little butter and fry the onions in that until they get a little bit tender, just a few minutes.  There isn't a good replacement for oregano or basil, you can probably do without it, it'll just be slightly bland.  Try SeasonAll or Italian Seasoning or something generic like that if you have it.
